Easy & Pain-Free Extractions

Essentially a rite of passage, having your wisdom teeth removed is something nearly everyone goes through in their life. At Epping Family Dental, we’re proud to make the treatment as easy and pain-free as possible, using advanced techniques and technology to help you recover swiftly.

All About the Third Molars

Wisdom teeth usually begin developing in the teenage years and may continue into a person’s late 20s. This third set of molars may never cause any problems—but for many, they require removal due to complications.

Your dentist will determine if your wisdom teeth are healthy & properly positioned. Not everyone needs their third molars removed, but most people may, due to reasons such as:

  • Pain or discomfort
  • Impaction
  • Cysts or tumours
  • Crowding caused by pressure from the wisdom teeth
  • Damage to adjacent teeth
  • Gum disease
  • Tooth decay that is not restorable

What to Expect

It’s important for most people to have their wisdom teeth removed, as they can create too much crowding within the mouth, making proper cleaning impossible. Ultimately, this can lead to infection, decay, misalignment, jaw problems, and more. Typically, we identify issues during your six-monthly cleanings. If we notice a problem, we’ll schedule a consultation, where X-rays or 3D imaging will be taken to get the best look inside your mouth.

After your consultation, we’ll book an appointment for your extraction, which is done safely here in our practice. The actual extraction may take up to two hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is most common for wisdom teeth removal?

We typically see patients between 15 and 40, though most people have their third molars removed in their late teens or early twenties.

How long does it take from consultation to extraction?

We know that time is of the essence for wisdom teeth patients, so we do our best to get them out within a reasonable time frame. Typically, a consultation takes place, and then the surgery can happen within the next week or two.

What is healing like?

A patient can expect to experience some swelling or discomfort for the first few days, which slowly improves over a couple of weeks. We’ll provide patients with everything they need to recover and heal properly and safely, with little to no pain or discomfort.

Do you offer sedation?

Yes, patients who are nervous may opt to be sedated for their extraction. If you don’t want to be sedated, a local anaesthetic can be used.
